BIO

Ayanna Seymour is an Ethiopian-Canadian singer-songwriter who grew up in British Columbia and recently moved to Toronto to pursue her passion for music. Raised in an intensely religious household, Seymour has coined the term "post-religious folk-rock" to describe her sound. Her music blends folk elements with the sonic feel of early 2000s contemporary Christian rock. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists like The Cranberries, Tina Turner, and Stevie Nicks, Seymour infuses her work with heartfelt lyrics and powerful vocals. Her debut single, "The Martyr", released in 2023, and her follow-up, "New Year's Song", which came out earlier this year, are available on streaming platforms. Currently, Seymour is in the studio working on her debut EP, set to be released early this summer.P.S.
Thank you to my dear friend Denice Dublin for the term:
